Spirit of the Mountain (Helping Spirit)

Analogy to lunar phases is suggested by crescent shaped eye and spots that represented the moon and stars; the rounded eye, the sun.
Caribou fur flowed out of the mouth. The helping spirit made food available to the people.

This mask has been carved by hand from the bark of the Black Cottonwood tree, which occurs in the lowlands of Alaska's South Central and Southern coastal forests.

The fur is is a recycled caribou hoof.

**Spirit Dancers Approx 7"W X 11"H.
