Puffin Spirit Dancer

Puffins and seabirds of many kinds along with loons and owls were the common embodiments of helping spirits, represented by the Shaman in ceremonial masks with song and dance.

This mask has been carved by hand from the bark of the Black Cottonwood tree, which occurs in the lowlands of Alaska's South Central and Southern coastal forests.

The fur is is a recycled caribou hoof.
