Tall, colorful rays of the northern lights shine through an Alaskan forest near Trapper Creek, Alaska on March 19, 2021 at 10:53 pm on the eve of the spring equinox.
Just a handful of minutes earlier I had been driving north up the Parks Highway when I glanced to the right and was stunned to see a huge bank of auroras coming in hot from the east. I quickly pulled into a roadside parking lot then, moving as fast as humanly possible, I grabbed my camera & tripod and scooted down a snow machine trail. I came upon this wood-framed window of opportunity, took a deep breath, and composed the shot. It was quite a rush to see those rainbow aurora colors glowing through the trees.
