All three color phases of the Ursus Americana Black Bear taken outside of Skagway, Alaska by Hamilton Gelhar. Black Bears are similar to Labrador Retrievers; they can be Black, White, and Brown or Cinnamon in color. Black bear subspecies go by different names, like Spirit bear, Kermode bear, Cinnamon bear, or Glacier bear, but they are all black bears. The Kermode bear is also known as the spirit bear or ghost bear because of its rarity and because a small percentage of them have white coats.
