Dreamy auroral light dazzles the senses above my candlelit cabin in Hatcher Pass, Alaska on January 29, 2022 at 3 am.

Having a getaway like this is a childhood dream-come-true. When I was a young boy growing up in the Midwest countryside of Iowa, I used to visualize having a cabin in the far north. The more rustic, the better. The dream led me to Alaska and in 1993 I bought this partially built octagonal log structure. With a lot of help from my dad & friends, we resurrected it into an aurora hunter’s lookout. I’d like to introduce you to my humble abode nicknamed “Freebird.” Cheers to finding space where dreams are free to roam.
